FUNDING BENEFITS LOCAL ARMAGH PROJECTS

 

The Niamh Louise foundation recently received £5,000 in funding from Southern Organisation for Action in Rural Areas (SOAR) to conduct research within rural communities in Craigavon, Armagh and Newry to build increased awareness and understanding around the needs of rural residents requiring help and support on mental health, self-harm and suicide related issues. Holywell consultants were commissioned to deliver the research project.

The aim of the research is to develop a substantial knowledge base that will allow the Niamh Louise Foundation and other agencies to better meet the presenting needs issues within rural communities. The information will be used to inform policy and practice of stakeholders who have a role in addressing issues related to Suicide, Self-harm and emotional well-being.

Cllr George Savage Chairperson of SOAR’s Joint Council Committee said ‘SOAR is delighted to be able to support such a worthwhile project’, and Miceal McCoy, Chairperson of SOAR’s Local Action Group stated ‘The Niamh Louise Foundation is doing a great work and this study will allow them to better address suicide related issues in Rural Areas’ .
