Suicide Awareness in local Farmers Mart

The Niamh Louise Foundation have attended the Farmers Marts in Clogher and Granville to raise awareness in the rural and farming community.

Community Development Worker Nikita Loughran and Sarah Nugent attended the marts on the 8th & 25th September. Speaking on behalf of the charity, Nikita Loughran has said, ‘we are delighted that we are able to raise awareness amongst the farming and rural community at the Farmers Mart. This work is crucial as very often rural and farming communities are very hard to reach and it will help us to break down some barriers’.

Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Michelle Gildernew MP MLA has said,

“Farmers tend to work in isolation due to the very nature of their work and are not generally the type of people to actively seek help for personal problems, preferring to ‘cope’ with whatever is thrown at them. I am delighted that the Niamh Louise Foundation staff will be getting out and meeting with the farming community at both Clogher and Granville Marts. This will help to raise the awareness of suicide in the farming/rural community and will also highlight and signpost the farming community on how they can access the services of the Foundation.”

The charity would like to thank the staff at the Marts for all their assistance in making the events at the marts a success! Thank you also to Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Michelle Gildernew MP MLA for her continued support.

We will be back at the marts again in the near future.
